The Sport Of Open Housing

The Sport Of Open Housing

Long before we were looking to purchase a home, my husband and I would often spend Sunday afternoons window shopping at open houses. More than just a voyeuristic endeavor (who doesn't want to peek into their neighbor's lives) it was fun to way to get design inspiration from what other people did with their spaces. Our old neighborhood was developed in the 1950s and all the homes shared a similar floor plan. In 2004 when we were planning a kitchen remodel, open houses in the neighborhood were a great way to see, live and in person, what other people had done to update the same footprint, and when it came time to meet with our contractor we knew exactly what we wanted (and definitely didn't want) in our new kitchen.

Fast forwarding to 2015, when we decided to make the move from he suburbs to the Big City, we had spent to much time looking at open houses in different neighborhoods that we knew exactly where we wanted to live, and we were able to focus our house-hunt to the specific part of the city we would eventually call home.

Two years later we still check out the open houses throughout the city for fun. Even though I have since turned this pastime into a career, it will always be our favorite way to spend a Sunday together.
