More developments are coming to the Delaware waterfront. The successful
Race Street Pier has provided beautiful green space and gorgeous views
of Center City and successful business such as Morgan’s Pier has given
life to the area right outside of Olde City and Northern Liberties. A
newly proposed $65 million apartment complex by PMC Property Group hopes
to break ground this July along side the Ben Franklin Bridge. The
project currently calls for 166 one bedroom and 84 two bedroom
apartments. The project will also dedicate ten percent of the bedrooms
or 25 bedroom units to lower income residents, which the company has
already employed in Pittsburgh with successful results. Philadelphia is
striving to be a leader in green space and the proposed project will
include two public spaces that will total 11,600 square feet. The park
will have - built in benches and water features that will start from the
sidewalk in. A green roof is also planned for the project along with 73
parking spaces and could possibly include some car share spots. The
building will be built along side the Ben Franklin but the mass of the
building will be pulled away from the building, preserving the view of
the bridge which was a main concern of the residents in the area.
Philadelphia’s waterfront has enormous potential and it is wonderful to
see more and more projects coming to the waterfront area. With the
abundance of green space that's going to be made available it will be a
smooth transition into the 2nd street and Race St and provide a
beautiful view along Delaware Ave.
