16 Million Funding For Street Paving

16 Million Funding For Street Paving

If you are a routine Philly driver, you know all to well about our city's pothole problems. With this Winter ranking in the top two snowiest Winters of all time in Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Streets Department is on pace to fix the most potholes ever in a winter season. It may also be getting a major boost this year as well. Mayor Nutter in his 2015 budget proposal has the Streets Department receiving 16 Million dollar in funds if it's approved. It will resurface 56 miles of the City and install 533 ADA approved curbs. This would be $4 Million boost to the department which received $12 Million last year to help mend these menacing potholes and street paving. This would be welcome news to every Philly driver. This Winter with 12 snowstorms pounding the City, a few of them being major storms, they have taken a toll on the streets. This is the major reason we have seen over 12,200 potholes fixed but they still leave the mark on the city streets. Because of all the winter weather we have had, some of the fixed restoration to the potholes have been only temporary. Then old man winter hits us again and some of these "fixed potholes" unravel quicker because they take on storm damage. This paving season which is slated to begin mid April, will see about 22 miles of city streets paved or repaved and will also install 775 ADA approved curbs. Philadelphia is well known for its potholes and they are widely spread throughout its neighborhoods so we hope the city can begin to tackle this serious issue that takes toll on many drivers axles and tires. If the budget proposal passes this would be a major step in fixing up our city's streets.
