We all hear "green" terminology thrown around, and say “Wow! Thats cool!” but wonder to ourselves “but what is it?” or “how does it work?” In these next few blogs I aim to explore these concepts and terms, furthering the understanding and interest in these types of homes.
My starting point? The “Passive House”.
Ok, well... what is it?
Passive House is a concept of building a home maximizing energy savings (up to 90% when compared to other building models). It is considered the highest energy standard of living.
That's great! Saving energy, the environment, and money, but how's it done?
A Passive House utilizes many aspects of green construction and logic; from the building materials (insulation, ventilation systems, windows and doors, etc.), to the home orientation (South- to maximize solar gain). All these components work together to create a comfortable, energy efficient living environment.
Intriguing, huh? Where can you see this concept in person?
In our own city! Nestled in the heart of Northern Liberties, the Stables have emerged. Pending certification, the Stables will be the first Passive House development in Philadelphia. Offering over 2,500 square feet of living space, boasting sustainable construction and design, the Stables is top notch. The thought and planning that went into this development shows through every aspect. There are even options to make your living experience in the Stables more green. By upgrading to additional solar panels your home could become net zero, or even net positive.
Beautiful design, energy efficient living, private parking, and situated in the middle of one of the best Philadelphia neighborhoods; you can't beat it. The Stables is the place to be.
