A Street Corner Is Rescued

As a resident of the Callowhill neighborhood, I'm always looking for hints that the feverish activity of Northern Liberties and Fishtown may soon spill over onto our quiet streets. So I get quite excited when I see an uninhabited storefront location come to life with a new retail tenant.

Such is the case at tFoo Kitchen owner George Pan and his manager and hostess, Naomi.he corner of 13th and Vine Sts. where a corner space has been empty as long as I've lived here. A bbq joint tried to inject some hotness for a few months but it never took and, visually, didn't make the best impression. Are they open or closed? Many times, it was difficult to tell. But now we may have a more serious and potentially successful occupant: FOO KITCHEN, owned and run by George Pan.

George is a sunny, super friendly restauranteur who's having some fun with his Foo Kitchen concept. It's casual, diner-esque menu leans on Asian-inspired ingredients with an occasional eclectic twist. Foo Fritters, Coconut Curry Quinoa and Squash & Mushroom Saute come to mind. Everything is made fresh in George's compact, sparkling kitchen.

Callowhill is a neighborhood beginning to stir around the edges. Thanks to people like George who are willing to take a risk by injecting new life to a slow block, such businesses attract the foot traffic and revenue our area needs in order to move ahead. We have lots of great, rustic loft spaces in old factory buildings that make for unique living spaces.
