Another Top Chef In Philadelphia

Another Top Chef In Philadelphia

As a resident of the Passyunk Square area, I was thrilled with the recent opening of Laurel.   I'm no so thrilled about the wait to get a reservation!

Philadelphia’s Top Chef  club just welcomed a new member.
In the season finale of the 11th season of Top Chef, which aired Wednesday, February 5, uber-talented chef Nicholas Elmi took the grand prize and the coveted title of “Top Chef.” Now, Philadelphia can claim not only a number of brilliant Top Chef contestants — we’re looking at you chefs Jennifer Carroll and Jason Cichonski — and an Iron Chef in Jose Garces, but also two Top Chef winners in chef Elmi and chef Kevin Sbraga, who won season seven. Between the Top Chefs, Iron Chefs, James Beard Awards and Food & Wine nods, Philadelphia chefs are consistently racking up the accolades and Philadelphia diners are reaping the benefits. Chef Elmi, who taps extensive training in French techniques to serve up his refined-yet-approachable style of fare, has been the executive chef of such top kitchens as the now-shuttered Le Bec Fin and the lovely Rittenhouse Tavern in Philadelphia. This fall, Elmi opened his own French/American BYOB restaurant on East Passyunk Avenue. The restaurant has already proven to be an incredible success and weekend reservations are currently a hot commodity, with tables already booked as far out as April.
