The snow is still coming down. The temperature has dropped to 23F. Hard to imagine that spring is just 16 days away. And coming, late this spring is Philly's new bike share program, Indego. Think of it as DIY transportation. Go to any one of the more than 60 bike stations that will be located throughout the core of the city. Proposed stations are as far north as Temple University, west to University City, south to Snyder Ave and up along the Delaware to Fishtown. The exact location of all stations isn't finalized, but here's a link to proposed stations: http://www.rideindego.com/station-map/. You then check out one of the over 600 bikes, ride it, and return it to any station in the system.
Here's how it works. Each Indego station will have a payment kiosk and multiple docking spaces that securely dock Indego bikes. To take a bike, either use a membership key purchased in advance (online or with cash) or use a credit/debit card at the kiosk. After riding, return the bike to any Indego station and gently push it into a dock. Docking the bike automatically checks it in. Once you’ve checked the bike in, you’re done! Indego bikes will be available 24/7, 365 days a year. Pricing isn't finalized yet, but there will be options to purchase key cards for multiple trips, or one-at-a-time at a kiosk. Bikes are built for city use, 3-speed, baskets, pedal-generated lights and have adjustable seats. Great way to get a little exercise, drive less, and not worry about parking when you go to shop or dine out.
