Keep in mind that most often New Construction homes do not get listed or advertised until they are almost completed to keep the Days On Market number lower. So, when you see a high DOM number on New Construction it's because the builder starts to advertise the day a shovel hits the ground and doesn't have anything to do with quality of construction or should raise a red flag as to why another buyer hasn't bought it yet. A typical build time takes anywhere from 4-6 months from when the first shovel hits the ground so you could see a DOM number as high as 180 days on the day of completion.
Also, buying a new construction home isn't too different from buying an existing one. You still get to perform home inspections, in fact you get an addtional home inspection known as a pre drywall inspection to make sure everything behind the walls has been done correctly. If there is anything found the respectable builder will fix the errors on your inspection report as well as give what's called a Home Builder Warranty. The Warranty is usually 1 year, which means for a full year after settlement the builder will return to the home and take care of any issues that came to light during your first year of ownership at the builder's expense, such as a leak in the roof, an appliance stops working, nail pops from the house settling, etc...
