All of you studio apartment dwellers know, and so do all of you who are renting in that ultra-modern loft or updated row home; builders today are eliminating the vestibule, foyer and proper entryway into the home. So what do you do with all of you things when you finally get home from a grueling day at the office? Do you throw it all on the couch? Watch out random friend who's been surfing that couch for the past 3 weeks! Do you drop everything on the kitchen table? Well whatever you have chosen to do, now is the time to remedy this calamity before the wet days of snow, ice, salt and mud bring more than just hot chocolate and shoveling to your front door. To fix this small-space chaos try some of these remedies:
Hooks! Not only do hooks give you options, but they also scream organization! You can hang coats, bags, keys, leashes -- almost anything can land on a hook when you walk in the door. Placing hooks just inside the door will provide the division of space that mimics the feel of a formal entry way.
Shelves are Elves for entryways -- placed at the right height, a shelf just inside the door can be a great landing spot of all the small things we hold as we walk in the door. From keys, iPhones, and headphones can have a home until the next time you go out into the world.
Splash some color - When in doubt with what to do, adding some paint can help to separate the entrance from the rest of the home. Add a striking paint color or design to the wall just inside the door to break up the space.
