Dive Deep: Eric Fischl @ PAFA

Dive Deep: Eric Fischl @ PAFA

From now until September 30, Philadelphians will have the opportunity to experience artist Eric Fischl’s work at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.

Eric Fischl first received critical attention for depicting the dark, disturbing undercurrents of mainstream American life.  Dive Deep: Eric Fischl and the Process of Painting has been the featured exhibition at PAFA since the beginning of July. Featuring 145 works of art, including 50 photographs and 14 paintings from 1979 to the present, the show highlights Fischl’s “process as a synthesis of astute observation and interpretation.”

I had the opportunity to attend the opening of this show, and was extremely impressed with Fischl’s work and was educated on his artistic methods and practice. Many pieces focus on beach scenes and landscapes, featuring a realistic and shocking representation of the human body.

The show will also be presented at the San Jose Musuem of Art from October 25, 2012, to May 12, 2013 who was a collaborator on this curatorial effort.
