Do Not Let Your Pipes Freeze

Do Not Let Your Pipes Freeze

With some of the coldest weather the Philadelphia area has seen in some time likely to be around for a while, this is a good time to keep an eye on your plumbing lines.  If you have an older house, be aware of water lines that run along exterior walls or in unheated crawl spaces.  These are the lines most likely to freeze, especially if they are in areas that do not get a lot of use.  The best prevention is to let the water drip or run at a thin trickle.  This should keep the line from freezing up.  If a line does freeze, open the faucet and gently warm the line using a hairdryer or heat gun.  Do not try to do it with a propane torch, burning your house down would cause even more problems!.  Flexible electric heating tape will also work.
