Come Cool Off at Philadelphia's Sister Cities Park- Fountain or Wading Pool? You choose.

18th Street & the Benjamin Franklin Parkway

Open 7 days a week, 6 am – 1 am

I can’t think of a better way to spend a sunny afternoon.  Stop off over lunch or after work, drive or walk (there’s parking!) for a quick cool down.  Nothing crazy, just a place to cool off and get your feet wet.  Located along 18th Street & the Parkway, is a state of the art, new park, complete with wi-fi and quaint café and eatery, Milk and Honey.

(It’s actually the perfect location to host a satellite Farm to Table market, just like the ones hosted weekly in Rittenhouse and Headhouse Squares.)

Sister Cities Park ‘s design is inspired by the Wissahickon River gorge extending along Wissahickon Creek in Valley Green.  The Park’s landscape is constructed from the actual schist, native to the Creek.  The gorge is depicted as snaking down a hill and emptying into a wading pool.  We The People, are welcome to enjoy a refreshing cool off on a hot day.

Dedicated in 1976, Sister Cities Plaza was intended to celebrate Philadelphia’s partnership with the global Sister Cities Program.  Each city involved in the program is engraved in the stone lining the fountain floor.  Water shoots up from every angle in the fountain, for the adventurous.  While a stone’s throw away is the wading pool for those whom prefer a quick cool off.  As I get my feet wet and gaze around, I notice a perfect line of vision with beautiful Logan Square.  How perfect this location is for a functional park.  With Philadelphia’s soaring skyline as the backdrop, the open parkway fills your view with lush greenery.  It’s just another day in magnificent, sunny, Philadelphia.
